ronically, it's only years after the big divorce that the Jeep brand finally benefits from the DaimlerChrysler marriage. An all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee debuts for 2011, and it now shares its underpinnings with the Mercedes-Benz M-class SUV. Better late than never, we suppose.

A new 3.6-liter replaces the previous 3.7-liter as the base V-6. It produces 280 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque (up significantly from the old lump's 210 and 235) and returns 11 percent better fuel economy, thanks in part to variable valve timing. The optional 360-hp, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 returns to the playground, and both engines are paired with a five-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or four-wheel drive.

We're tempted to go ahead and call the 2012 Buick Verano a "baby Regal," because the truth is, the two cars are much more alike than you might think. Since the Verano is based off of the Delta II platform (which is relatively large for what General Motors calls a "compact sedan") that also underpins the Chevrolet Cruze, the new Buick's dimensions are awfully close to that of the larger, Epsilon II-based Regal.

GM has released the first 2012 Buick Verano teaser image which show the right front corner of the new model. The Buick Verano teaser photos offers a glimpse of the new model's headlights, fog lights and front grille. General Motors has announced that the new Buick Verano will be built at the Orion Assembly plant in Southeastern Michigan. The Buick Verano will not be the only model built at the fore mentioned plant. GM also plans to build its future small car there. The Buick Verano and the company's new small car represent and investment of $600 million.


Official pricing will surely be announced closer to the car's on-sale date near the end of 2011. If early reports are to be believed, however, expect the Verano to be priced around $21,000 for base models, going as high as $26,000 for cars with all of the trimmings. What's important to note, however, is that while the Verano is Cruze-based, it uses different materials throughout the interior and has a totally different look. GM is convinced there's a market for an entry-level Buick sedan, and the automaker will be showing off its latest creation at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show next week.
